Ask at the beginning of the call if everyone can be heard on the other end.  Participants should be equidistant from the microphone.

Speak into the microphone; don’t wander around the room while you talk.

Keep extraneous noise to a minimum, such as rattling papers or tapping pens. No side conversations!  If you must make noise, or if you won’t be contributing to the conversation for a time, mute your end of the call.</description>
